Turkish black sea dances

The Middle East has a rich tradition of folk dance. Every district has its own local tunes, songs and dances. There is some special song or dance for every event of rural life.

A birth or a wedding, the death of a loved one, sowing the field and harvesting the crops or leading the flocks to water. Some of the songs and dances have to do with a particular craft or work, some have fertility or good luck as a theme, while others express the timeless feelings of a man, joy and sadness, the longing of an exile for home and the homeland, love and affection for the beloved. Each year we will provide Turkish folk dance and an intro to Arabic folk dance.

Oriental Dance

E-mail

altOriental dance (also known as bellydancing) has ancient roots and thriving international traditions that remain extraordinarily vital today. From the oldest ritual traditions of the eastern Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Mideast, belly dancing has spread throughout the world, finding many adherents not only in its areas of origin but also in such areas as the Balkans, India, and Central Asia.

The multitude of dance forms grouped in English as "belly dance" have a variety of names in the cultures that produced them. To Greeks, belly dance is the "cifte telli"; to Turks, "dans oryantal"; and to Egyptians, "raks sharki." Despite such variety, the belly dance traditions of different cultures share some generally recognized features. Each year we will provide you with excellent Oriental dance instructors from all regions of the world, representing the different styles from different countries. We welcome your requests for any specific type of dance you may be interested in. Each year we will offer Egyptian, Turkish style oriental dance and American Tribal Style Belly Dance.

THE MORNING WARM-UP CLASS WITH YOGA

Explanation of the DAILY WARM-UP CLASS:

DAILY WARM-UP
I want this to be a class to warm-up the students, and also to give them some new internal awareness of their bodies and help them feel more centered.  I want to give yoga stretches, curls and arches to wake up the muscles, as well as some yoga breathing exercises to innervate the core and diaphragm areas (will also show how this prepares students to do the Roma "belly throws"- gobek atmak).  I also want to include some unique exercises that will help students access the deep internal core muscles (particularly the psoas) of the abdomen that will relax them, center them, and help them to be able to move their pelvis' with more fluidity and strength.
